If you are looking to buy or compare prices of  bike gear or bike apparel, your best bet would be  to use Qbike.

Qbike is not an online store but a site that compares prices from about 35 online bike stores.

At Qbike you can find almost anything for your bike and you can compare prices or find very good deals.

The site is very simple to use and once you select an item, like bike shoes, it takes you to a page like this:

Were you see the price, the site, the product and the update.

You can order the items by price.

If you choose something like Bikes you’ll see a menu like this:

Which is very useful since you have all the options you need to find a bike.

There are two thing I don’t like about Qbike (they seem to happen only on real cheap or on sale items):

  1. Sometimes the results might be misleading. For example you can find road shoes for $30 but when you click on the item, they are only available in either very large or small sizes.
  2. Sometimes if you click on an item it takes you to the web site were you can buy it but not to the real product.

But in general the site is very good to find bargains, to compare prices and to buy all your bike gears and apparel.

Most of the triathletes I have met, have faced a dilemma of whether to buy a tri bike or a road bike to race with. Unless you can afford both, I think it’s a legitimate question and even if you own one of each, you might be undecided on what bike to use on your next race.

The frame geometry, as shown in the following image, are very different:

(source: Wealtri.com)

A tri bike has a 76-78 degree angle, while a typical road bike has a 72-73 degree seat-tube angle. This angle (road bike) allows the cyclist to use his or her quadriceps more than their hamstrings, which produces the power for sprinting across the finish line and climbing hills. The triathlon bike angle makes better use of your hamstrings, which means your quads conserve more energy for running afterwards.

Also, triathlon bikes might have smaller wheels (650c) instead of 700c (road bike), which make the wheels weight less and better wind-resistant.

So what does this mean? Well it depends.

I guess the best answer I have found is in this article. And to put it in very few words, if there are many hills where you usually race then buy a road bike but if your race town is pretty flat, then get a triathlon bike. If you have both, then train according to the competition. Many hills? Train with your race bike. Flat course? Train with your triathlon bike.
