A good rule of thumb is to replace your running shoes every 300 to 400 miles or 480 to 640 Km. This obviously depends on your body weight, running style, and the surface which you run on.
That means if you run 5 miles a day, 5 times a week, you should replace them after 3 or 4 months.
Something you should also consider is that it takes about 24 hours for the padding to return to its original thickness, so if you run daily, you should have two pairs to alternate.
The best way to keep track of your miles and your shoes is by keeping a log. Keeping a log not only is important for your training but it is also very simple. You don’t have to use sophisticated software or online services (but you can). I use an Excel spreadsheet to log how many miles I run, bike or swim daily.
I will post a entry this week with a sample log that you can use.
